Brain Teasers
Squire's Choice
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
There once was a young squire who decided it was his time to marry. However, he could not choose between the three finest maids of his village.
He asked his wise mother how should he choose a bride from the three lovely maidens.
"Ask them to eat cheese with you," was the woman's reply.
The man did as he was told and after the meal he was able to pick the best girl to be his wife. How did the young man decide?

Hint
They ate a certain type of cheese. It was not only what they ate, but how they ate that mattered.
Answer
The young man served cheese with a thick rind and watched the girls eat. One devoured the cheese without taking off the rind. The second hastily cut away the rind, wasting the cheese. The third cut the rind away neatly and wasted none of the cheese. He did not marry the first girl, who was greedy, nor the second, who was careless. The wise squire married the girl who was neither greedy nor careless, but a careful and patient woman.
