Brain Teasers
Lemonade Stand
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
It was a very hot day, so Randy and Lina decided to sell lemonade. Being so hot, the pitcher of lemonade with half a dozen ice cubes was extremely tempting. Randy begged Lina for a taste, but she said no. After about five minutes of no customers, Lina went inside to get something that she'd forgotten. When she came back three minutes later, they had two customers. Randy poured them each a glass with three ice cubes. After the customers left, Lina noticed something. "Hey!" she said, "You drank some of the lemonade!" How did she know this?
Answer
Randy took a drink and added ice to raise the level of the lemonade. To start with, there were half a dozen (6) ice cubes. Those six ice cubes were given to the customers. If Randy hadn't added more ice cubes, then there wouldn't have been any left after the customers left.Hide Answer Show Answer
