Brain Teasers
Poor BtB
Bad-the-Bunny was asked by teacher to sketch six characters taken from the word shown below. He did five and just sat there looking at the work on his paper with an extremely puzzled expression. Finally, teacher laughed, said, *very good*, and gave him an A. BtB still didn't understand. Sketch the six characters, explain it to BtB, AND give the reason the teacher laughed.
R E B U S
R E B U S
Hint
*character* could refer to an image or description of a person, animal, or object. It could ALSO refer to something peculiar about printing and the alphabet.Answer
BtB sketched the word R E B U S just as he saw it, with the spaces between the letters. The blanks (or spaces) between the letter-characters R,E,B,U, and S are also considered characters, especially in typesetting or digitizing, and on keyboards. So, the word R E B U S, as spaced, actually contains nine characters. BtB, sketching the word, spaced out as he saw it, actually got it right simply by showing the space(s). And BtB's puzzlement also amused Teacher because it showed BtB's facial expression had done it another way (*drew a blank*).Hide Hint Show Hint Hide Answer Show Answer
