Answer
The fingers of the handEach line of the riddle is a clue to each respective finger, as follows:
line 1: thumb - A "thumbs up" from a movie critic is representative of a favourable review. Similarly, a "thumbs down" signifies an unfavourable review.
line 2: index finger - The index of a book "points you to the page" you are looking for.
line 3: middle finger - Vertically, the middle is between the "bottommost" and the "peak".
line 4: ring finger - If you're looking for someone, you may give them a ring (phone call).
line 5: pinky (little finger) - "Why" = (i.e. sounds like) the letter "y" which is "behind" (follows) "a chilly cheek" representing the word "pink" since your cheeks may turn this colour if they are exposed to cold temperatures.
