In the problem below, 'X' represents a letter, and each letter represents a member of the same group of things.
For Example: If I was using the letters T, B, S they might refer to Trout, Bass, and Salmon, which are all fish. But remember, we are dealing with things that can be 'Added' and 'Subtracted'.
The following are true statements:
(P) - (R) + (Y) = 'X'
('X') - (Y) = B
However,
No letter added to it will give you two of that letter.
That is, 'X' + 'X' = 2X would NEVER be true.

Solution: 'X' can only represent the letter G, [GREEN]Basis:
The letters represent COLORS, which can be 'ADDED' and 'SUBTRACTED' from (or to) each other, producing a new result.
Example:
Purple (P) is a color that consists of both Red (R) and Blue (B).
Thus, R+B=P.
Also, 'SUBTRACTION' works:
Purple (P), consisting of two colors added together (Red [R] and Blue [B]), can have one of those colors subtracted to leave the remaining color (in an equation this works, but don't try it with real paint):
(P) - (R) = (B) [Purple minus Red Equals Blue]
Therefore, I can get 'G' (Green) by doing this:
(P) - (R) + (Y) = G
