Downhill Racers
Situation
Situation puzzles (sometimes called lateral thinking puzzles) are ones where you need to ask lots of yes or no questions to figure out what happened in the situation. These are good puzzles for groups where one person knows the puzzle and answers the questions.Situation
Two skiers are standing at the top of the hill. There are two runs that lead to the chalet. One run is one half mile straight down to the chalet, the other curves and is three-fourths of a mile to the chalet.
The skiers decide to each take a different run, and even though they ski at exactly the same speed, and go right down the middle of each run, the skier that took the longer run reaches the chalet first.
How did that happen? By the way, neither skier fell down.

Answer
The straight run had lots of moguls. Even though it was only one half mile long, the extra distance from the ups and downs cause this skier to reach bottom last.Hide Answer Show Answer
