Brain Teasers
The Ex Files
American and English English provide rich territory for use (and misuse) of the native tongues. "Ex", for example, has been shown in the newer dictionaries as having the meaning of "former" or "prior", such as "Ex" for ex-husband or ex-wife.
Here are some more "ex's" all with made-up definitions and some made-up words that express a former "something". For example (ex-ample) might mean somebody who just went through Madame Froggy's Instant Skinny weight loss program; "ample" often being used (nicely) to describe those who are "calorically challenged".
See if you can identify the "ex" word that goes with the definition. I've done the first one. And have provided a few letters here-and-there as hints in the others.
"former astronaut": exorbitant
"newly acquired cosmetic surgery": ex_ _ai_
"last year's super model": exp_ _ _d
"Jurassic skunk": ext_n_t
