Today, April 15, we celebrate torgortega's birthday. Yes, he definitely was and IRA baby. Am sure his folks still had to wait another year before trying to declare him as an exemption. Tee Hee. +Stand up for what you believe in even if it means standing alone.+ My byline Me and Barbra Streisand turned 75 today. She and I were both born on exactly the same day, the 24th day of the 4th month of 1942. I think I may have been a bit older however because I was born at 1:24 AM on that date. I can't figure out why she got all the talent and I got all the beauty. I am having trouble downloading this today so if I can get this uploaded to the Birthday area I am going to go with just this. Instead of the usual history, birthdays, etc I am trying to tell you something about myself.
I have been a member of Braingle since November 13, 2005. I had worked with computers for about twenty years, but when I say worked, that is just what I mean. I worked with computers, first at our County Assessor's Office and then at our local hospital. Two different systems and training. Working for the county I had a wonderful programmer who taught me to never be afraid of them. Our office was the first in the state to go onto computer and work up the ability to type titles, create value and tax and then produce the registrations for every vehicle in our county that traveled public roads. It did take a while, but we eventually got all 92 counties in the state on with on line titles, values, taxes and registrations. All because of our programmer. When all of that was accomplished our records were then made available to all law enforcement and by that time most officers had the ability to sit in their car, pull up a license plate number, get the owner and home address. Before I started at the hospital I was able to purchase my own personal computer using what I had learned from our programmer. Being the pilot county in the state our offices then started putting property deeds, homes, farm buildings and even personal property on.
One of my favorite parts was in the fall when schools started up, we had three high schools in our county and every year the Veterans held County Government Day for the High School Juniors. The teachers picked which students to put in which County Office - each office got at least three students. I did up all the paper work, met and register the kids, name tags, etc. They had their swearing in time in the District Court Room and then went to their assigned offices with the Head of the Office. After two hours of informational time, they were all taken to our Eagles Club for lunch. I always felt we at least gave these kids a taste of what government was all about. I have always been very patriotic and felt touched by seeing the picture in the paper of the Junior classes of the county standing with our County Veterans on the Courthouse steps.
When I finally got Internet abilities I found Braingle because I have always been one who loved puzzles, word search things, crosswords, etc. Then I discovered there were some very friendly people here. And because I always enjoyed writing, I picked up on Fishmed's Braingles Writer's Block. Oh there have been some fabulous writers in here, one young lady who could have gone on to write for greeting cards, one young lady who wrote with her whole heart and had many friends - she is now a married mother of four. There was a couple who would split their stories - one would write the first line and the other would finish the story by expounding on every word of that first sentence to make an entire story. And we still have a young man who has keep the box open with his continuing story. Pyro, we are so happy you have graced us with your work. Of course because work is deleted after it has been a certain length of time without additions we have lost a great deal of wonderful work. I have felt blessed to have read some of the finest work that came from these talented people.
I was invited to join the CLC Talkbox that was run by five ladies. It was and is by invitation only. It was the most fun I have had on the entire internet. Basically it is inactive now as so many have gone to other sites, but the friendships have continued over the years and the members will always be precious to me.
I have become a total fan of the Werewolf Game, playing for several moderators. Since my health has deteriorated I try to make sure I am well enough to play about two weeks before I join a game, as I will never forget getting sick and hospitalized after about three days into a werewolf game. How she did it, I will never know, but one of our ladies phoned me, on the hospital phone, and told me it was an awful way of getting out of a werewolf game. I was totally surprised and honored that she had called to check on me.
I have had extreme difficulty getting this transferred over to the Birthday box and this does not have all the information I wanted to include with this message, but hey, I got this much in. Bad day health wise so will quit with this bit of information. Hope everyone is having a great day. Big hugs to all.

I think the above birthday wish it is a beautiful tribute to a beautiful person. Sadly, I guess we have gotten use to reading your birthday tributes to everyone and forget you too have to celebrate these birthdays too!

Thank you everyone for your birthday wishes. I had a rather quiet day, which I do enjoy. My son and one granddaughter came about lunch time so I had company for lunch. The daughter I live with and her son spent the day with me - neither feeling to well. Seems we are all crouping and coughing like crazy. It's been so nice out we opened up the house to get all the winter smells out, but I think we got a great deal of pollen in and most of it settled in our lungs. At least the house does smell fresher.
Later in the afternoon my daughter that I used to live with and her brood came by. We sat outside in the beautiful weather and visited for about an hour. Was nice to see her boys - they have grown so much this past year. I am used to the height of the grandson I live with, but when Nic's boys gave me hugs I was amazed. I know I am short and all, but my six year old grandson is only about an inch shorter than I am and my 11 year old is about 3 inches over and above me and the 15 year old is just a half inch short of six foot. Granted their father is I think 6'2" and the father of the grandson I live with is 6'5" so I have realized that I have to look to my "great grandkids" now to have someone who can look up at me. Granted my girls aren't very tall either and my son is only 5'8". Ha! And his wife was only 4'9". So I guess I will have to say, I don't understand my girls picking out guys that are so darned tall. I don't see what the big deal is with all that height. I mean at 5' both of my feet still touch the ground!
Oh well, now that I got all that off my shoulders, again, thank you everyone for the recognition you gave me. I do truly appreciate it. Will remind everyone that I am still going to try to get an anniversary acknowledgement going on. I mean I have been divorced longer than I was married, but I know most people are happily celebrating their anniversaries and I would like to let people know.
No sorrows for me and no marriage. The man I married still lives about 12 blocks from me. He has been a decent father to his children, always kept up on his child support while they were growing and now is loving on is grandchildren. He did wind up married to "my best friend" which was sort of a kick in the patoot, but all I really wanted was for him to be a good dad and we are better friends now - he and I - than when we were married. I could have written the book on mental abuse, but decided I was better than that and my hatred was eating me up, so forgiving worked much better for me. Well that was something you all didn't know about this old Grayma.

Well the month of April is almost over. Did you folks get plenty of April showers to bring on the May flowers? I know some people did get too much rain and I understand yesterday morning in the far north of Nebraska, they were getting rain mixed with snow. We don't need any more of that here in the lower elevations. My pretty blooming tree outside my bedroom window I think has made it through ok.

Thanks so much vlerma! I don't come on this site a lot anymore so it really means a lot that you still took the time to wish me a happy birthday! Man I had I no idea that I've been here for 5 years now, it still feels like I'm a newbie on here. You kinda guessed right, though, I don't think I've touched my wiki/public page in at least a couple of years now. I'm still a Canadian student who loves Harry Potter, though, so I guess they're still pretty accurate but I'll have a look at it again when I'm free during the summer and update it.

hermygranger123, you are so welcome for the birthday wishes. I'm just glad you happened to be around so you could see it. I think a lot of us are roaming around in different social sites, myself included. But Braingle is still home to me when I want to spend some time on the computer. I made a lot of good friends when I came onto Braingle and a lot of them are still here. And of course they are my friends else where too, but I know when I have something really important to share, I will come home to Braingle as I feel much more secure here.
It is so ironic that Diana Agron was singing as you were reading the birthdays. I just loved Glee and the follow up, and of course I can't think of the name of it right now but . . . My one daughter has been singing since she was 12, really good - she can sing any Whitney Houston song-did a "Mary Don't You Know" solo for Christmas Eve services at church and sings karaoke a lot. Her daughter, my youngest granddaughter will graduate in a couple weeks. She is in the high school choir and a week after graduating the and the rest of the choir fly off to Rome to do some concerts in Italy. I just pray they don't run into any problems and get home safe.
Well young lady, you have a famous singer on your birthday - I have Barbra Streisand on mine. I joke about how I don't understand how she got all the talent and I got all the beauty. LOL But she looks just pretty darned good for 75.

Oh for heaven's sake I am playing in Snowmonster's Werewolf Game and have just discovered that I missed a birthday gal on the 26yth of April. LirttleGreenMan had a birthday on the 26th, but I missed Katherine24. It was just by pure incident that I ran into the 26th of April. I'm definitely super jealous of your daughter and granddaughter, though! Never been able to sing but wish I cold. The Italy trip sounds really cool! Wishing her all the best as well
Between me and Dianna Agron, she definitely got both the talent and the beauty! Glad I know about the fact that she's my birthday twin now as before that, the only famous person I knew who shared my birthday was Stephen Harper who, while important, is definitely not the most thrilling person to share a birthday with.

Yeah, for sure. Glad I know about the fact that she's my birthday twin now as before that, the only famous person I knew who shared my birthday was Stephen Harper who, while important, is definitely not the most thrilling person to share a birthday with.
Thank you so much! I had a pretty good birthday; there was definitely a lot of great food! Unfortunately, I still had a lot of homework to get through, though, so that definitely put a bit of a damper on the mood... I just joined a WTB game last night so hopefully that'll motivate me to come on more often.
