thanks... I think alcohol is one of the main items in most ear drops for swimmers. The one I am using says 95% iso alcohol and 5% anhydrous glycerin. Water seems gone... but there is swelling. Hearing comes and goes. Lots of fun lately. I looked up a local specialist for ears, and on Tuesday, I plan on seeing if I remember to call him for an appointment. Tubes may be the answer... we will see.

Seriously, check out Ear Candles. They are a naturopathic thing. I was very sceptical when my 80 year old father suggested these for my little girl. "In the old country..." he used to say. I had visions of fire in my child's ear!!!! But then we had grommits and ear vacuuming at the specialist, LOADS of money spent and nothing improved. We had lots of screaming when drops were put in the ear...I saw some of these Ear Candles at the pharmacy so I thought...why not.

With a lot of trepidation and preparation, we did this. She lay her head on my lap and I held the burning candle in her ear. She reported a warm feeling and a lot of crackling in her ear. She felt comfortable.
Upon completion, we cut open the candle with scissors to reveal a whole load of waxy, gunky yucky looking stuff which came out of her ear [the candle was a clear hollow tube when we started] and she felt better. We did this ear candling a number of times [and our family now does it from time to time]. Her ears improved. By using these ear candles ourselves, you feel a sense of clearness of the head.
My father showed me how to make my own candles using beeswax and muslin but it is easier to just buy them from the pharmacy.

Try them. You have nothing to lose. You can still go to the specialist after if they don't help you but they are a much cheaper alternative.

Thank you Snappy, and here is what I found out:

"However, the FDA in the United States, as well as similar organizations in other countries, have outlawed the use of ear candling to claim any sort of medical benefit and cautioned the public to "just say no." "

I suspect Froggy does. Wow, 46 days, I hadn't realized it's been that long since she dropped in.

Actually, I haven't talked to her lately, but she has made a few recent posts on FB. Last I talked to her, she was home but having to take it slow and easy. If I hear anything, I'll let you all know.

On a very sad note, I wanted to let everyone know that we lost one of our Braingle family. Debbie Robinson (Hadleigh) passed away due to complications from surgery. She was a really sweet and kind lady who I am proud to have become close friends with. She loved to travel and now has gone home to rest in peace and watch over her loved ones. Condolences to Ivan and her family.

I loved playing Who's the Boss with Hadleigh... she and her little dog avatar were always a pleasure to see. I don't recall her ever causing any problems or arguing with anyone about anything. It's been a couple years since she last visited us; but it seems like yesterday. My thoughts to her husband and family this evening.

Randy, an old member started a thread on FB about Debbie. There is now a TWG in signups that is in her honor that many of the old group are saying they will come back in order to join. You should join if you have the time.

I think she left Braingle when she and her hubby, Ivan, started to really travel all over the place. She was always talking about their trips and what they were doing.

Wow, I leave Braingle for a bit and I come back to find Grayma sick (although recovering - thanks Froggy for checking up on her) and Hadleigh has passed away.

Sigh...

A reserved hello to everyone!

Welcome back, Tonja!

So many people coming back... I almost feel like starting up a WTB game.
