What's a word you pronounced (very) wrong for a long time?

Have you ever had that feeling when you hear someone say a word, and you realize what word they said, but that you've been pronouncing it wrong your entire life up till then?

When I was little, I read the word "gingham" and automatically assumed it was pronounced "jinj-ham" (no kidding).

I remember talking to my mom once when she was sewing, and she said something about gingham (pronouncing it correctly). 5 seconds later, I realized what she meant, and that my guess was waaaaaaaaay off!

Before that, I also pronounced "queue" as "kway-kway" (yes for some reason my brain added an extra Q in there).

So, what's a word you pronounced very wrong for a long time? The funnier the better!

Bureaucrat! I always said it "BŌ-reh-crat" for the longest time, until I was like 12. That word has no right to be spelled that way.

magician

I remember reading the Magician's Nephew and telling my dad about it - only I pronounced it ma-JIK-ee-an. I knew the word magician, I just never saw it written out until then.

I have another one: lasagna. I thought the G sounded like... well, a G.

I somehow never said the word awry, only read it - turns out it's ah-WRY, not AW-ree...

And another: meme. I thought it was "MEH-meh," instead of "meem."

Here's one I had to say in a speech: antithesis. It looks like anti-thesis, but nope, it's an-TIH-thi-sis.
