Dawn Wells, who found fame as pigtailed castaway Mary Ann Summers on the 1960s hit sitcom Gilligan's Island, died Wednesday morning in Woodland Hills, Calif., of complications from COVID-19, publicist Harlan Boll has announced. The actress was 82 years old.

"America's favorite castaway, Dawn Wells, passed peacefully this morning, in no pain, as a result of complications due to COVID, at the age of 82," Boll said in a statement to Yahoo Entertainment. The statement, which lists her time of death as 7:30 a.m., also notes that "there is so much more to Dawn Wells than Mary Ann."

Born in Reno, Nev., on Oct. 18, 1938, Wells competed in beauty pageants as a young woman, going on to be named Miss Nevada in 1959 and representing her home state in the 1960 Miss America pageant. That same year, she graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in theater arts and design.

On a personal notes, I had the hots for this castaway! Even at 17 years my senior.

Thank you Snappy, I always thought she was prettier than the Ginger character.

Tommy Lasorda, who for more than two decades managed the Los Angeles Dodgers and for twice that long lent his simmering, feisty, in-your-face temperament to the iconic franchise, died Thursday night. He was 93.

The team announced that he "suffered a sudden cardiopulmonary arrest at his home."

His death came less than three months after the Dodgers beat the Tampa Bay Rays for their first World Series championship in 32 years. Lasorda attended the deciding Game 6 in Arlington, Texas. He had been hospitalized and placed in intensive care in November, and returned home Tuesday.

In a loud rasp and with a sparkle in his eyes, Lasorda regularly declared that his blood ran blue for the Dodgers and challenged anyone to disprove it.

As a Dodger fan all my life, he was the best manager. I liked Walter Alston, but loved the energy out of Tommy. I'm glad the Dodgers won the pennant last year and that Tommy was able to watch it happen in person.

As a Giants fan, even I have to respect the great Lasorda.

Nothing to say about that

Larry King, the longtime CNN host who became an icon through his interviews with countless newsmakers and his sartorial sensibilities, has died. He was 87.

Prince Philip has died - The Duke of Edinburgh dies at age 99

Prince Phillip, husband and consort to Queen Elizabeth II, recently spent four weeks in hospital, his longest stay ever.

The Palace said in a statement: "It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle."

The Palace said more announcements would be made and added: "The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss."

A notice announcing the death was placed outside Buckingham Palace, and mourners came to place flowers at the gates.
