Covid 19

Take care everybody!
Where I am, we're doing really really well. But we have all followed rule of lockdown and self isolation... we have had suburbs shut to each other. Travel bans in our state. Really harsh.
But we've had no new cases for a while... only 5 or so in isolation too now...
Still waiting for another wave....

It's pretty bad here, close to capacity at many area hospitals. Yesterday I found out that the father of a friend died suddenly from Covid. He had been sick at home with fever, doing pretty well, but then developed breathing problems and died in the ICU just hours after arriving there. He was in his 70s and had some health issues, but it is still sad and very shocking for his family. He was a sweet guy.

Then found out a young guy I know has tested positive. He'll probably be fine, he's in good health and has no symptoms besides not being able to smell or taste anything.

A few days ago I could say I didn't personally know anyone who had caught it, much less anyone who died from it. But it feels closer now, and the statistics are starting to have faces.

It's so sad to see anti-maskers protesting for their rights when it's for your own good

I feel for you whoviandeb. That is so sad.
We can only try to do our best.
It is very scary to hear the numbers around the world but until it affects you, you don't really think it is there. We're so isolated down here for once, it works in our favour.

The man in charge of our state still wont allow people in unless they have a Good to Go pass.
We're all with him.

Rashes and breathing into my eyes are totally helpful

If 2020 hadn't been an election year, I think we'd be in a much better place right now. But everything is political now...

The only reason people think about the 1918 Spanish Flu pandemic is in relation to Covid, so I don't know if they'll care about Covid until they get a similar pandemic in a hundred years or something.

Everything I know about the Spanish flu I learned from Downton Abbey.

Seriously though, we don't learn about that in school.

Yes, it is scary, take care! I had a brother in law get it, then his wife. Thankfully, both cases were mild and they have recovered. We could be reaching the final peak as the vaccine comes out. It's a matter of time. Everyone needs to just be careful, wear your masks, and do the safe distance around those not living in your household! 2021, not far away, should be better.

My dad has tested positive. I am a child, and therefore live with him. He isn't extremely high risk, but still...
I can't go to school anymore, so I guess I'm fortunate that my school is very computer oriented, even when in person.

I started this thread a year ago. And just last week I received my first dose of the vaccine.

Fun fact: The vaccine doesn't stop you from getting covid, it only lessens the symptoms

Vaccines are designed to give your body an immune response so that when you come in contact with the virus, you do not develop the disease or symptoms of the disease because the virus is not allowed to spread and multiply throughout your system.

It is true that each person's immune system will determine how protected they ultimately are. For example, I take a medication that suppresses my immune system to a certain degree, because of an underlying autoimmune disease I have. Studies have shown that some people on this medication have shown a lower percentage of efficacy from the vaccine, though it does increase after the second dose.

In short, in a world where anything could happen, I'll take all the protection I can get.

And now, my mom and sister have it too. My brother says he feels sort of sick too, we got tested last night but haven't gotten the results. I'm the only one who hasn't had any symptoms of the five of us in my family.

Apparently, it's the UK variant that my family has, which is way more contagious, so I don't know how I don't have any symptoms yet. I guess my immune system is just too good

Wish you and your family well mathmaven.

I got my second vaccine shot on March 5th, so technically I am now 95% immune. From what I read at least if I do get Covid, it will be a mild case.
